My Community Story

Growing up in my family meant we moved every two and a half to three years, at least. However, most of the first ten years of my life were spent living in or visiting College Point, NY. Community

bust In 1868, Poppenhusen mistakenly invested in the railroads and consequently went bankrupt. He traveled back and forth from Germany up until his death on December 22nd, 1883. In 1884, a monument was built in Poppenhusen's memory, which read, "To the memory of the benefactor of College Point." The Poppenhusen Institute is still open today, and it is a landmark in the state of New York.
