My Community Story

Growing up in my family meant we moved every two and a half to three years, at least. However, most of the first ten years of my life were spent living in or visiting College Point, NY. This is the community I identify with. The information referenced here is from A History of College Point, N.Y. by Robert A. Hect

family He also started a plan for his employees similar to modern health and life insurance, which covered times of illness and death. Over time, College Point became known as "Little Heidelberg," after a city in Germany, because of all the German immigrants coming to work for Poppenhusen. He had a five-story building, The Poppenhusen Institute, built to house facilities and classrooms for free adult evening classes.
